A few months ago, I went to visit a friend who was with their friend. As I was leaving, I said something like, “I’ll let you know when next I’m free so we can hang out.”
The other friend ‘jokingly’ said, “You that you are jobless!”
I laughed it off, but the whole situation wouldn’t stop coming back to me.
Looking at my life now, it actually feels more meaningful than it has ever been – creating, building, learning, and becoming. My days are purposeful, even without a 9 to 5.
But back to that comment, it made me stop and think and I realise that sometimes it is not just strangers, but friends, who say things that reveal either what they are battling inside or how they see us.
I am learning to listen beyond the laughter.
To pay attention to what people say (to me or about others) and even more importantly, to observe what I say to others.
Words are mirrors. They show what is happening within us, whether we realise it or not.
