Hey friend,
At a virtual gathering I spoke at last week, someone asked how to rebuild trust without fear of disappointment
I understand this fear but the truth is, it is almost impossible to do life without some form of disappointment, friendships included. We are all human, and things will not always go the way we hope. People we love will sometimes say or do things that hurt us, and we will do the same to them.
It is beginning to dawn on me that disappointment is part of connection, not necessarily proof that it has failed. What matters most, I think, is what happens during and after. Who are we in the midst of the issue? How do we communicate our needs? Do we talk about it, or do we let silence and resentment grow?
Healing and rebuilding often takes courage.
Question:
When disappointment shows up, how do you respond?
