Hey friend,
Earlier this year, I went through a season of change. I was becoming more self-aware, recreating my patterns, seeing life differently, and choosing myself in new ways. It was a unique period, and I realise now that it also created a bit of friction in some friendships.
I, too, have seen new sides of friends that I did not immediately recognise. It made me uncomfortable at first, but I also had to relearn the people I thought I already knew.
I am realising that we sometimes hold on to the old version of people because it feels familiar. It fits our expectations, our routines, and the roles they have always played in our lives. Part of us may even wish they would return to who they used to be so that nothing changes.
But change happens on every side. Sometimes people evolve in beautiful ways, sometimes in ways that feel harder to align with. In both cases, seeing who someone truly is now helps us make informed and healthier decisions about how to be present in their lives.
Real connection requires curiosity. It asks, “Who are you becoming?” instead of “Why are you changing?”
