Hey friend,
We do not talk enough about how much history influences our friendship decisions.
I have trusted friends I have known for decades.
I also have trusted friends I have known for barely a year.
I have been disappointed by people I have known for a very long time.
And I have also been disappointed by people I had only known for a short time.
Truthfully, I have also been the one who disappointed others.
It has made me realise that length of time does not automatically mean safety or alignment. People evolve. Values change. Time does not always give us alignment.
What matters is who someone is now, how they show up now, and how willing they are to grow now.
Ofcourse, we need to give grace but I am learning that trust is built in present tense and history alone cannot hold a friendship together.
