How Do Your Friends Know You Care?

Hey friend,

One Sunday, a friend showed up with a bag of fruits for me. What made it even more touching was that it was also her husband’s birthday. I remember thinking, wait… should you not be the one receiving gifts today?

I was genuinely touched.

It made me pause and reflect on something very honest about myself. I know I have mentioned before that giving gifts is not one of my strengths. I am usually very happy with group giftings because I can easily hide within everyone’s suggestions.

And while care can be expressed in many ways, that moment made me wonder how intentional I really am about showing my friends that I care.

Do we assume people know?
Do we rely on the fact that “we are friends” to do the communicating for us?

Sometimes care looks like big gestures. Other times, it looks like simple presence. A check-in. Remembering something small. Showing up, even when it would be easier not to.

That moment was a gift. A reminder to think more deliberately about how love is expressed, not just how it is felt.

Question:
How do your friends experience your care, practically and intentionally?
