Hey friend,
Some weekends ago, I attended a gathering where I saw friends I had not seen since university, some for over fifteen years. It was such a good time catching up on life, friendship, and all the changes time brings.
An old friend was speaking about the tension they feel between finding someone who fits their current life and finding someone they are willing to change for. While the conversation was about romantic relationships, I realised how much that same friction exists in friendships too.
As we grow, our lives change. Responsibilities increase. Mindsets and values evolve. And sometimes, the question becomes:
Do I keep adapting myself to fit this friendship, or does this friendship still fit who I am now?
Friendship, like all meaningful relationships, requires flexibility. It also requires honesty. Not every friendship is meant to stretch us endlessly in every direction. And not every friendship that accommodates us in one season is necessarily the right fit for the next.
Clarity helps us discern the difference.
Question:
Are you experiencing healthy compromise, or slowly losing yourself?
