Hey friend,
In my last note, I said something that seems to have resonated.
Friendship is not always about how long. Sometimes it is about weightier things.
I think this might be something we do not talk about enough. Something we may have been subtly conditioned to overlook.
We have been taught, in so many ways, to measure friendship by time. By history. By how long someone has known us, how far back we go, how many battles we have survived together. And yes, those friendships matter. Truly.
But this season has taught me something else.
Some of the kindest acts of friendship I experienced came from people I had known for months. They had no obligation. No long history or memories to protect. They just showed up. Fully. Without being asked.
A lady who found her way to my work, became a client late last year, and when she heard, sent love in ways that still move me. She was even navigating her own difficult season and still made room for mine.
Someone I had met only once, at a wedding years ago. And yet came. With gifts. With presence. With the kind of thoughtfulness that makes you question what you thought you knew about connection.
And another, someone I had known for only a few months, who showed up over and over again. Not always with words. Sometimes just to sit. Just to be there.
I really did not quite have a category for any of this.
In my next note, though, I will talk about what I have been thinking.
In the meantime, I recorded an episode on the W.E. W.I.N podcast, a month before this season began. Listening back, I can hear myself talking about this. It feels different now. Richer somehow. I think you will find it worth your time.
